Au Revoir Huret

The last time I wrote a blog, 1 1/2 years ago, I wrote about Changing Direction. Last spring when I considered not renewing my WordPress account, I decided to give it another year before I made that decision. Part of my reasoning was that when I chose to sell some of my dolls, the blog photos and descriptions would be very useful.

Now I have decided to sell a few dolls. I never thought that I’d be saying this, but I’m selling my Huret. I think I’m ready to move on. I lost some of my Huret-costuming mojo when all the little repro Huret dolls started appearing everywhere in the doll world* (*first-world problem alert).  It just didn’t feel as special. I know, boo-hoo.

The reason I’m selling her isn’t what you might think.  I’m not done with dolls, but there is a very pricy doll that I want/need and I have chosen to sell other dolls to get her. She is unique and yes, she will require some extensive costuming.

If you recall, in one of my early posts, I admitted to selling 35 dolls to get my Huret. Well, the quality of my collection has improved and I think I only need to sell 5 dolls to get this new one.

I will be selling the dolls by consigning them with a dealer I trust. I’ve never tried this before, but I’m optimistic.

So I’m using this post to remember my Huret and to catalog her costumes.

This is how she came to me. The belt-purse loops broke and I never did get around to fixing them.

I bought her an antique dress at a Theriault’s auction. It’s a little big for her, but it looks lovely with a blue sash to hold it in.

Her new (not antique) hand-sewn outfit consists of an embroidered wool jacket from a pattern in La Poupee Modele and a silk skirt over a cartridge pleated cotton slip with hand-sewn scallop edging. She also wears her antique blouse and new leather shoes. I wrote about this outfit several times. If you’re interested, you can click on Huret under Categories for more posts about her.

She owns two pairs of reproduction leather shoes, light and dark BLUE.

These new BLUE striped and pink socks are hers.

She also owns another skirt that I made. It is cotton, printed with tiny yellow stars.

I will miss this face.

For the curious among you, here are the other dolls I’m selling. If you click on the description, it’ll take you to their blog posts.

6″ Simon and Halbig All-bisque.

7″ Kestner Pouty

12 1/2” French/German? Painted-eye Poupee

Painted-eye FG Boy

If you are interested in any of these dolls, contact me and I’ll give you the dealer’s info after she puts them up for sale.

I will probably sell more dolls in the near future and shut down my blog when it comes up for renewal next spring. I just don’t have the time or mojo to do it anymore. I’d thought about putting all the blogs into a book, but that sounds like it would make my head explode.

When I stop paying for it, I understand that all my posts will go away. So if you want to save any of the tutorials or other posts, you should do so before April 7, 2019. If you just want the pictures, you can save them on Pinterest. The links just won’t work.

I’ll try to post again before this all goes away. Maybe sharing my new doll (if I get her). Maybe selling more dolls. Maybe showing what else I’ve been up to…

  1. How sad to see your Huret go! I too am at that stage of relinquishing some antique dolls to help fund others. i have found that since I have become moe knowledgeable with the antique dolls my collection has become more refinde (aka expensive). I think it is a natural progression.

I am glad that you are not leaving the doll world altogether and would love to know what doll has captivated you enough to let your Huret and other dolls move on.

Good luck and enjoy the new girl!

  2. I have always admired this Huret. She does not look like the new ones. All the dolls you have listed are wonderful. I would like to know where they will be sold. I have also loved your blog. But I do understand moving on.

  3. Your dolls are beautiful, but I understand the process of refinement. Good luck on your new doll!

  4. Thank you for sharing your sewing and doll collection.
I happened onto your blog with the “Ah, Huret!” article. Will you post the new doll pictures?

  5. Yes, my new doll is coming today. I’m very excited. I’ll post photos of her soon.
