Prototype and Poetry

I’ve been busy, but I don’t have any finished work to show for it.

Supergirl and I have had a few adventures. One day we went to the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, VA with my daughter. On another, we drove to Alexandria, VA and rode the water taxi across the Potomac River to the National Harbor in Maryland to ride the Capital Wheel (ferris wheel). Both were fun and she’s ready to repeat them.

The third dress for the triple flips is still unfinished because my mind has been swirling with thoughts of fairies and 17th century embroidery.

My big embroidered casket will be covered in fairies, but I think they need to be doing something. So I’ve been searching for a poem as my inspiration. I could include the poem in my embroidery, or hide it inside the casket.

I don’t want to do the obvious and use Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It’s not my favorite. I bought several used books of fairy poetry on Amazon, but they are children’s books and not what I really want.

Can you help me? I need a poem that has references to fairies in nature, but that isn’t too gruesome. It doesn’t have to be long. Some of my friends and family have suggested that I write the poem, but that’s not happening.

I started making my doll-sized casket, which will feature nature inspired embroidery. As I worked, DH kept calling it a prototype. I insisted that it was the final product. I really hate it when he’s right!

My prototype was made from bass wood, cut with an X-Acto knife. My arm is so very sore.

I made some major mistakes on the prototype and want to make some design changes, so I’m starting over… Today, SG and I are going to the craft store to buy more wood and to Harbor Freight to buy a small power saw.

I have created the pattern for my Bru fairy’s smock neckline. Now I need to begin the tedious job of transferring it to the linen so I can start stitching.

I hope to get back to sewing this week. We’ll see.

  2. What about Shakespeare’s, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”? It sounds like you are mentally harking back to those times. You should find something to ‘spring from’ online. That play is full of fairies.

    • I’d considered it, but I’m not really a fan of the story. It’s too convoluted for my taste. I’ve moved on from the poem idea and and just winging it. Thanks.
