First World Problems

Are you familiar with the popular meme, first world problems (aka white whine). If not, Google it.

I am very fond of the concept of looking at my life through a real world lens. It helps me to experience many of my problems with a “get over yourself” attitude.

Life’s been busy the last two weeks and won’t calm down for me until the week after next. WAH!

I just wanted you to know that I’ll get back to blogging on a more regular basis in a few weeks.

I haven’t been idle on the creative front, though. I finally got up my nerve and transferred the embroidery pattern to the linen for my Bru’s 17th century fairy costume. (Check out “17th Century Embroidery” under Categories to see more about this project.) I chose to do it lightly in pencil.

And I’ve stitched half of it. I am terribly proud of how it looks so far. The sides of the pattern each measure 5/16″ high. Stitching on such a tiny scale requires lots of light and good eyesight.

My prototype for my doll-sized embroidered casket has gone by the wayside and its new, improved replacement is coming along. I had to get a finer saw blade (which cost more than my mini table saw) and had to make a new cross-cut sled to accommodate the new blade.

The base frame and the top lid are done. Now I need to work out the fiddly angles on the big lid. In school, math was alway easy for me, but I struggle with Geometry (I had a lousy teacher for the one Geometry course I took).

The search for a suitable fairy poem or story for inspiration for my caskets has not been successful. I’ve decided to just stitch what I like and let the viewer create their own story.

The design process for the embroidery for the dolly casket is proceeding nicely, with most of the designs chosen. I’ll share them with you when I get closer to the stitching stage.

I had lunch and a long visit yesterday with a dear dolly friend and gave her one of the fairies SG and I made to share. She gave me these incredibly beautiful hand-knitted wool socks for my Huret. I definitely got the better end of this deal!

Today is the first relatively quiet day I’ve had lately (except for a vet visit this afternoon). So I need to decide whether I should make doll wigs or take a nap.

Woe is me, my life is so HARD.
